USB Flash Drive with OLED Display

A unique USB flash drive has recently been patented by the Ennova Direct Corporation (DBA ION Technologies). It represents the new age in the drives’ history due to its specific features which no one of already existing flash drive has. However, Ennova has not yet given a name to its new drive.

It is a biometric flash drive that combines interactive OLED display and retractable USB connector. Of course, this is not the only drive with retractable USB connector; the uniqueness of this device consists in other features.

It has a built-in cover for the OLED screen protection. The OLED display has a specific purpose: it serves like a built-in biometric fingerprint scanner, aimed at showing success and failure and changing its color depending on the fact if the user’s fingerprints correspond to ones stored in its memory or does not. Additionally, the OLED screen serves as an interactive interface that allows controlling and choosing your files and initiating some functions without using computer interface. Moreover, USB flash drives have big memory capacity reaching 64 GB and can be used as external backup drives, according to Ennova.

If you lose your flash drive, no one can use it, for they will not be able to move out the retractable USB connector, if the fingerprints do not match. So, if you value quality and security, this flash drive is for you. However, there is no information on its price yet, but, supposedly, it will be quite expensive, for the OLED screen and security it offers, are worth much money.

Leyio: The World’s First Wireless 16GB Flash Drive And Why It May Not Succeed

Flash drives, thumb drives - whatever you wanna call them have become so ubiquitous they’re now stuffed inside of pens, gift bags and just about anywhere they’ll go. The only problem is that you need a computer to share their contents.

The Leyio is the industry’s first flash drive that utilizes UWB, better known as Ultra Wide Band to exchange its stored contents. Just stand within short range of another Leyio and you’ll be able to transfer files up to 10Mbps. Integrated into the base of the drive is a 2GB flash drive for pulling contents off computers or for sharing files with non Leyio devices. To insure the utmost in security the Leyio features a fingerprint scanner that also doubles as navigation touch pad and battery life on a single charge is a reported 1 month.

I love the idea and seriously applaud its maker, but my gut tells me that the Leyio will not succeed. Not because it costs $230, but because UWB has yet to be integrated into really any devices and with the launch of Bluetooth 3.0, which promises high speed transfers riding on the WiFi spectrum, it’s sure to supplant any possibility of UWB going, well, wide spread.

The 16GB Leyio is currently only available in the UK, you can find it on Amazon.

Specs:

* 16GB Personal Sharing Device
* 1.5″ OLED Screen to view your data
* Data Transfer between devices with UWB at 10Mb/Sec
* Mini USB for Charging and Loading Data
* USB 2.0 Port for transferring data to/from any USB Key
* Built in USB Shuttle (2GB)
* Finger Print reader for security.

Statue of Liberty – an USB Flash Drive

The greatest national symbol of America - Statue of Liberty - acquires new form of use. Now it is an USB flash drive. The idea of this original drive came to the Super Talent Company that tried to make it similar to the statue as much as possible. The USB Flash Drive presents the goddess in her lengthy dress staying on the base. You will see the USB connector if you pull off the statue from its base.

It is reported that the flash drive will come in three sizes: 2, 4, and 8 GB. This is the only information concerning the drive. There are no details on the size or the price.

It will be a great present for the patriots of the USA and not only for them: I think it will be an excellent souvenir for tourists.

USB Bamboo Water Fountain To Help Your Stream Stay Steady

I urinate enough. I don’t need a USB powered bamboo water garden to exacerbate my already too many trips to the bathroom. USB junk is on the rise and it’s looking as if it might never stop. More of a joke gift than anything else, I can’t see anyone buying this for themselves. Only 25 dollars, I can see this being funny at airports and such. Would definitely be cooler if there was whiskey running through it! The day I post on the USB bedpan, life will have truly come full circle.

There are those who like the sound of water flowing so much, that it induces them to be more cheerful and settled. Then there are others who just have to pee, in any case the makers of this new USB Bamboo fountain surely had something in mind when they made it. Perhaps it’s an attempt to calm the mind of a traveler while he is busy typing away on his laptop, while worrying about depleting battery life. Not a great solution, but incase you want such a bamboo fountain keep you check book ready to sign off $25 for eternal bliss. It also comes in a multicolored LED option for the same price.

Wireless USB - no wires, same speed

Wires are getting out of fashion really fast these days. Even though they are going along their path of progress, speeding up data transfers step by step and introducing innovative silicon optical fiber technologies, they still don't fit perfectly in modern day lifestyle. That is because they are a burden to any electronic gadget. For example, Bluetooth hands free devices are popular for not having fibers and so is WiFi and mobile broadband. However, Japanese enthusiasts have introduced some amazing stuff in this field – Wireless USB kit. Yes, it is a kit, not a single device. WUSB was primarily designed for notebooks is planned to be released in the mid Decemeber '08, which is about now, so be ready to go for it if you like it, and if you live in Japan.

The manufacturer of the Wireless USB is well known in Japan Ratoc Systems. The full name of their product is Wireless USB Adapter Kit REX-WUSB1. Besides its technical part, for using it a software installation is required. There is not much information about compatibility, but it is sure compatible with Windows XP 32 bit and Windows Vista 32 / 64 bit, running on machines with CardBus PC's card slots. The installation I was previously talking about is a WUSB driver, and the USB gadget doesn't need anything to be done it, except for plugging it in Wireless USB hub. Its serial number is WD-HUB01. In it its turn, in the computer's or laptop's USB hub fits with above named Wireless USB CardBus PC Card WH-CBA01 and there you go. Now any USB device is acknowledged by the PC without any cables our fibers. It is all up to you how to use it, starting from data backups to printing documents. The WUSB by Ratoc Systems costs 31.500 Yen on the Japanese market.

Mobile broadband - fast and portable internet connection

Fast internet is the thing that almost everybody wants now. There is even a 40 Gb/sec connection given to homes which is certainly too much for a usual computer. However, people always want to get bigger higher faster and better so they connect to best internet providers they know. Speed is one aspect of internet connection. One of the latest tendencies of customers is to get not only fast but also mobile internet for their devices. Mobile broadband has become the best solution for the cell phones that support 3G connectivity. Since then fast internet connections market has been growing very fast.

However, using your PPC is sometimes not enough, users would like fast internet for their laptops on the go. This is where mobile broadband comes in handy. From the beginning of 2008 this area has become very popular and now almost every cell phone user and a considerable part of notebook, or netbook users. The best advantages of this internet connection besides its portability are usability and ease of connecting it.

There are special USB dongles that make mobile broadband possible. It is easy to insert the sim card into the modem and connect it to the notebook's USB port and get pretty fast internet connection. However, maybe soon these modules will be built into notebooks because they give pretty good connection with reasonable price.

Speeds provided by mobile broadband are very good too. Speed range is between 1.8 Mb/sec to 7.2 Mb/sec being the fastest connection and giving the users from 1 GB to 7 GB of internet traffic. They are sometimes even better than usual connections you get home. However, the price of these connections is higher and the traffic is also limited. However, the speed is enough to watch movies and play games online. Speaking of games ping time could sometimes be too high which will make it impossible to play. However, mobile broadband was created for different audience than just gamers.

Today when a lot of companies propose their services in this domain it has become very difficult to decide what provider to use. However, there are websites that make ratings for the best mobile broadband providers. There are also websites where you can make speed test of your service provider and check the possibilities of your device. Besides, it also depends on your cell phone services provider because they use cell phone networks for this type of connections, which means that you will get this service anywhere where 3G connection is available. The bad thing about portable internet is that it will get worse where signal gets weaker.

Flash Drive - Cigarette lighter

Nowadays Flash Drive is a well-known thing, used nearly by everybody. It became a really good helper and replaces our habitual discs and even has diskettes from the market. It is convenient in use and portable that's why Flash Drive occupies an important part in our daily activity. Now a lot of different flashes are devised and it's so easy to get lost in their diversity. A new gadget represents one of these variants.

This is a usual Flash Drive with a lighter built in or it's possible to say that it is a lighter with a Flash Drive built in. This gadget represents special choice for smokers of course. This is comfortable thing, because it is not necessary to bring lighter and Flash Drive separately, all is combined together. One of the biggest advantages of this gadget is that Flash Drive could be pulled out. It wouldn’t prevent using lighter. Its memory size is 4 GB. It's made in Zippo style and is decorated with a cowboy's symbol - the cow skull.

The price or such invention is 26.65 USD. To my mind it's quite a good gadget. However, it's possible to make an inscription on the gadget's body "Smoking is harmful for your health". I think that all the inventions should to bring any harm to us, but to carry out useful functions.

USB Photo Scanner makes digitalizing photo collection a lot faster

While the era of digital photos already arrived, most of us already have a pile of old-school printed glossy photos, which were taken from film cameras. Unlike its digital counterparts, they seem to fade with years; they can be easily torn or stained. Of course, the first thought that comes to mind is to scan them all and keep them in digital form. However, everybody who done that knows that this process is painfully slow, especially if the amount of photos to scan is huge. While you can just leave them as they are, it is better to think about some faster ways to digitalize your photo albums and make them last almost forever in the digital form. And this cool gadget will help you with this task.

USB Photo Scanner is a specially designed gadget that will help you in that boring task of digitalizing whole photo collection. Unlike usual scanners, it does its job a lot faster. Equipped with a 5 megapixel CMOS sensor, it can scan photos in just minutes, and they will be digitalized in up to 1800 dpi resolution, 10 bits per color channel, automatic exposure control and color balance. Taking in consideration that this gadget was especially maken to scan photos, it is designed to simplify this process: just put your photos in a tray and then slide it into the converter. After the button press, they all will have their digital copies, ready to be stored on every digital data storage device possible.

While this job can be surely done by usual scanner, it takes a lot more time to scan all your photos that way. However, the main disadvantage of this Photo Scanner is that it is specialized in only one direction - it can be used only for scanning photos, and after you finished this process it will remain unneeded. So think for yourself, will you buy a 9.95 gadget only for photo scanning, or a usual scanner for the same price, which can scan everything.

USB mini digital camera

At present there is a great deal of different digital cameras that can easily meet any wishes. Quite a significant amount of them have as many functions as possible. But sometimes people want to possess something simpler and smaller, because often they don't need to make photos that look like professional ones.

Imagine a tiny USB camera with no viewfinder, no LCD screen, and no buttons except one. Such a camera was designed by Sungwoo Park who decided to exclude all the functions except the main one. This gadget represents a mini USB digital camera that combines the feeling of not knowing how your shots turned out with the ease of USB transfer.

Thus, in comparison with usual digital cameras and cell phones no additional cables, card readers and so on are required. You just insert your camera into USB port. As regards the size of this concept it's almost the same as that of a usual USB flash drive. Despite the fact that no information is given about the quality of the pictures taken by this camera we can conclude that it's quite poor. It's hardly possible to supply such a small device with all the elements that enable taking high quality pictures.

Taking into consideration all the facts mentioned above it should be emphasized that this gadget helps to make the process of photographing easier. Yet the only buyers of such USB digital cameras will be people who like compact things and do not need professional photos.
